Newly promoted Coventry City will travel to face Everton in the 10th round of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Manager Lampard has stated that he hopes the team can achieve a better performance in such a competitive league.
In the last league match, Coventry City defeated Sunderland 3-1 thanks to goals from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Awoniyi, and Jack Rudony. Coventry currently sits in 16th place in the standings with 9 points, having won 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 matches.
Coventry manager Frank Lampard said, "We always want to do better, and that's an unavoidable part of our job. I think we could have gotten more in some games, and in the last game against Sunderland, we put on a very good performance and got a positive result."
"The beginning of the season was quite difficult for us, both in terms of the schedule, especially against some opponents, and the difficulty in winning games. These all posed challenges for the team. But now, we have won 3 of our last 5 games."
Lampard noted, "From that perspective, we are quite satisfied, but we hope to achieve more and must continue to work hard because the season is still long. However, after last week's games, it has certainly been a positive week for us."
"For our team, it's not a given that the players can show this kind of resilience. We've just been promoted to the Premier League, and many of our players have never played in this level of league before. You know, Premier League players usually need to go through hundreds of games to gain experience in real matches and gradually develop enough resilience, but many of our players haven't gone through that process yet."
Furthermore, Lampard added, "We need to integrate the new signings into the team and help the team improve on that basis, which involves complex issues. But judging from the team's current style of play and the goals they are striving to achieve, I think both the players and the coaching staff are handling it quite well. This is a process that requires continuous improvement, and we will continue to work hard. I believe this team has even greater room for improvement, and we must strive towards that goal."
"This is exactly what we're striving for. We need to maintain consistent performance, clearly identify where we're doing well, and further solidify our strengths. Every player needs to continue to grow and become more familiar with each other. After all, we made some adjustments to the roster during the summer."
