Gen.G defeated LYON in three straight games to advance to the semifinals of the World Championship.

In the quarterfinals of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship, Gen.G, the number one seed from the Korean LCK, performed strongly, defeating LYON, the number two seed from the North American LCS, with a score of 3-0, and successfully securing the second semifinal spot.

This victory secured Gen.G at least a top-four finish and a $400,000 prize. In their previous five appearances at the World Championship, Gen.G had been eliminated in the semifinals four times.

This time, Gen.G is aiming for their first-ever qualification for the World Championship finals. Their next semifinal opponent is Shanghai Invictus Gaming (IG), who previously defeated Top Esports.

For LYON, this loss means the end of their World Championship journey. The team ultimately finished 5th to 8th, along with a $300,000 prize. Although they were eliminated in the quarterfinals, this result broke their previous record. In their previous four appearances, the team had never finished higher than 17th.

The two teams had previously met in the Swiss rounds. At that time, Gen.G rallied from a set down to win 2-1 and advance to the knockout stage.

Although LYON subsequently lost to IG, they staged a comeback to defeat LOS in the final do-or-die match, making history by advancing to the knockout stage. Now, facing off again, the superior Gen.G gave their opponents few chances, winning three consecutive games to end the match.
